Temple of God

This contemplative prayer station focuses the individual being the temple of Christ.  If possible, balance this station with another that focuses on the Church (Christians) as the body of Christ.

Directions for Leadership:

Stretch some twine along a wall and hang the different scriptures and instructions (below) along with pictures all along the twine.  That way, people can walk along the wall reading as they go. Or, set up tables with candles and table cloths and lay everything along the tables. At the end, set up an area where people can sit and pray.

Prayer Station Instructions:

Collectively, we, the church, make up the body of Christ.  But we as individuals are also a dwelling place for God.

“Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”  1 Corinthians 3:16

Now imagine this:  A person walks into a Cathedral and starts spray painting the walls with horrible words, breaking furniture and sculptures, throwing hymnals through stain glass windows and tearing down what they can.

Just as the Jews built temples, the medieval church built Cathedrals, and today we build church building and Meeting places. God built us and lives in us.  It is one of the mysteries of our faith; how God breaths into us His Holy Spirit to guide, convict, and grow us into the person God created us to be.  In Proverbs, God says we are beautifully and wonderfully made.

And yet we neglect and often actively destroy our physical bodies, this temple of God.

Spend some time with God, asking how you may be disrespecting your body.  You may be struggling with the fact that the God of this universe thinks you are valuable and that you are physically beautiful.  Ask God to help change the way you view yourself.
