This contemplative prayer station offers participants an opportunity to remember that the call of God is often heard beyond the boundaries we create for it. *Used with permission from www.crosspointings.org
Directions for Leadership:
Create a poster with images and categories that people would typically see as not being “in.” Be very specific to your community. Make sure you have pictures that cross religious, economic, social, political and racial boundaries. Be brave and put whatever God is convicting you to put on there! At the top of poster have the question, “Would you accept a dinner invitation from…”
Print out Acts 10:9b – 16 and Acts 10:47 to place next to the poster as well as the station directions below.
Set up a water fountain (or just a large bowl of water) under the poster with a pile of aquarium stones, printed scriptures, and directions for the station around it.
Prayer Station Directions:
Take a moment to invite God into this time and space.
Prayerfully consider the question that is asked on the poster, as well as the scriptures presented. After a while take time to turn your thoughts to a particular person whom you would have a difficult time accepting an invitation from for dinner. If no one immediately comes to mind, ask God to bring someone into your thoughts for you. Then listen, be still, and let God speak. When you know who, take a pebble to represent them.
While holding the pebble in your hand, say a prayer asking the Holy Spirit to show you that God is involved with people who are outside of our self-styled boundaries. Ask God to help you see that person how God sees them. Then place the stone in the fountain, to remember that God love everyone and calls everyone.
